The Chemical Properties Of Tellurides

wallpapers News 2020-12-08
Telluride is a compound of tellurium and metal or non-metal. For example, the representative of telluride with non-metal is hydrogen telluride, which is a colorless, odorous toxic gas; metal telluride has copper telluride, which is difficult Dissolved in water.

Chemical nature

Tellurium burns in the air with a blue flame to produce tellurium dioxide; it can react with halogen, but not with sulfur and selenium. Soluble in sulfuric acid, nitric acid, potassium hydroxide and potassium cyanide solutions. Reacts with molten KCN to produce K2Te.

Hydrogen telluric acid, which is dissolved in water, has properties similar to hydrosulfuric acid. Tellurium also generates tellurite H2TeO3 and the corresponding salt. Use strong oxidizers (HClO, H2O2) to act on tellurium or TeO2 (stable white crystalline state) to generate H6TeO6, which turns into powdered H2TeO4 at 160°C, and turns into TeO3 after further heating. H6TeO6 is easily soluble in water (25.3%) and becomes telluric acid, which is a weak acid.

Its chemical character is very similar to sulfur and selenium, and has certain toxicity. Heating it in the air to melt it will produce white smoke of tellurium oxide. It can cause nausea, headache, thirst, skin irritation and heart palpitations. After the human body inhales very low concentrations of tellurium, it will produce an unpleasant smell of garlic in the breath, sweat and urine. This odor is easy to be felt by others, but I often don't know it.
